I’ve spent my entire life braving midwest winters, and a good winter coat is a necessity. I have an embarrassingly extensive collection of coats: they’re my weakness! In the winter (which lasts from mid-October to April where I live), coats are the only way to make a fashion statement. Here are my top three essentials to have in your closet, both for function and for fashion!
The Longest Parka You Can Find

This coat is like wearing a blanket and it brings me so much joy! Having a coat that goes past my knees has been a game-changer in Michigan: this is easily the warmest coat I own. I love the white to dress up for more formal occasions and it looks great against the snow. It also stands out against the usual sea of black winter coats that everyone owns. I almost always wear a scarf with my white coat to keep any makeup stains off of it: I do thick scarf on the coldest of days, and a thin silk scarf if the weather is milder.

The Dad Coat

I’ve had this black wool coat for three years now. I was inspired by the show Peaky Blinders, and in the past two years, the dad coat trend has exploded. I now have this coat in two different colors, and I wear them all the time. This black one is great for the fall and winter, and I have it in lilac to transition into spring.

Both of these coats are perfect to dress up for a nicer occasion, or just to throw on for everyday wear. The Dad coat is a truly timeless look: the cut is never going to go out of style; it’s been around for ages. By adding trendy accessories, you can style this coat for years to come.

The Teddy Coat

It took me a year to find the perfect teddy coat: but I finally found one that I fell in love with! Not shocking, but this one is the teddy version of the Dad coat that I posted above. This coat is surprisingly warm, the color is neutral enough to go with everything, and it matches my dog (and his name is Teddy)!

The teddy material is trendier, but balanced with a traditional cut, this coat can be paired with pretty much any look. A teddy coat in a brighter color is always fun, but I would stick with a basic cut as well. I don’t see the teddy trend going anywhere anytime soon, and mine was totally worth the investment because I wore it so much this year!

Stay warm out there this winter!
xoxo,
Kaitlyn
