Quarantine Beauty Routine + Self-Care Tips

My makeup routine has been looking a little bit different during my first week of social-distancing: I’m normally a full-coverage gal, I pack on more products on the average day than most people do if they’re going all-out, but that just hasn’t been comfortable while I’ve been lounging around my house! I’ve been playing around with a makeup routine that’s low-coverage, quick, and easy, but still makes me feel like I have my life together.

In place of foundation, I’ve been using Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter in shade 5. This acts like a tinted primer to help reduce redness. I normally use it as my primer under my foundation, but it has enough of a tint to act like a low-coverage foundation. I use NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in custard under my eyes and to cover up my pimples and blemishes (I blame this pandemic stress for my current breakouts), and set it with Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Finish Setting Powder in shade medium. I add additional powder under my cheekbones and to the center of my forehead to absorb oil (my skin-type is oily). This powder is full-coverage, so it balances out coverage with the Hollywood flawless filter. For warmth and a natural contour, I dust Marc Jacobs O!mega Bronze in 102 on my cheekbones, at my temples, around my hairline and down the sides of my nose. This bronzer isn’t too dark, which is ideal because I’m taking a break from my self-tanning routine- all of this hand washing is washing it off of my hands faster than I can keep up with. Lastly for the face, I add a bit of Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in sparkling bellini to the apples of my cheeks.

I’m taking a break from my usual contoured brows by filling them in with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in ebony. I use the pencil tip to outline the bottom of my brows, then lightly fill them in, and I use the spoolie end to blend the color to create a natural shape. I set them and brush the hairs upward with Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel in granite.

I give my lashes a curl and apply two coats of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara to the top lashes only. This makes my eyes look more open than applying mascara to the top and bottom, and makes the look more natural. Lastly, I line my lips (over line if you’re feeling bold) with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner in pillow talk 2-medium, fill in with NARS Satin Lip Pencil in rikugien, and top with NARS Lip Gloss in risky business. Both NARS products are not super long-lasting, which makes them easier to remove, but the lip liner helps hold them in place. The lip combo is a warm, shimmery pink. It’s a little splash of color without looking too crazy when you have no place to go.

On that note, social distancing is so important. The longer that these measures are in place, the more stir-crazy I worry that we’re going to get, but please resist the temptation to leave your house for anything non-essential. I’ve left my house once in the past week (the lease on my car is up next week, so I needed to trade it in before the world stops), and have (a minimum) of one more week until I might have to go back to work… I’m already missing my friends, my favorite Thai restaurant, and shopping.

Some tips to stay sane:

Phone a friend: catch up with someone you haven’t talked to in a while; check in on your family; FaceTime is your friend.

Workout regularly: get those endorphins moving with an at-home workout; youtube is your friend here; see if your local gym or yoga studio has resources online to stay active.

Get your life together: do your hair and makeup; put on a cute shirt with leggings if you’re working at home; wake up at a regular time and try to establish a daily routine.

Get some sunshine and fresh air: go for a walk; go for a run if you feel ambitious; stay six feet away from anyone you might meet on the sidewalk; sit on your porch.

Stay informed: The Daily podcast from The New York Times has been very informative (I’ve been starting my day with this podcast for the past few years); watch your local news (regulations are different state-wide right now, stay in-the-know about what’s happening around you); critically read what you’re seeing on social media to avoid disinformation.

Wash your hands!

xoxo,

Kaitlyn
