An Afternoon at UMMA

The University of Michigan Museum of Art is easily one of my favorite spots in Ann Arbor. I’ve been captivated by art since my first visit to the Detroit Institute of Art when I was a kid, and when I was in college, a few of my classes took me to UMMA to analyze different pieces. I had a class that took place in the basement of the building, and once spent an hour stationed in front of a painting, writing a paper about reflection of fashion in it. Living back in Ann Arbor, it’s always comforting to stop back in.

The pre-spring 2020 collections have started hitting stores, and I’m excited to see that the midi-skirt trend isn’t going anywhere. For the new season, I added this asymmetrical midi to my closet. I love the movement, and the slit up the side reminds me of my days as a ballroom dancer. I paired it with a leopard-print turtleneck and a glam belt so it wouldn’t look like I was on my way to dance practice.

This outfit combo would be great for a dressier occasion or a sophisticated night out. Worn separately, the skirt and top can be easily dressed down. I would pair the skirt with a slouchy sweater or an edgy graphic tee for an everyday look, and the turtleneck would be cute with jeans and a cardigan.

xoxo,

Kaitlyn
